Driver in fatal hit and run turns himself in

A 20-year old Mount Vernon man has turned himself in to police in connection with a hit-and run that killed a 71-year-old man. Authorities said the driver hit John Bachmann, the former Amherst fire chief, while Bachmann was getting his mail, and drove off without realizing he had a hit a person. When officers arrived they found Bachmann severely injured in a snow bank. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police said it looks like the crash was a result of driver inattention. At this point, no the crash is under investigation and no charges have been filed.
