The Manchester city Board of School Committee tonight will be asked to scale back the experience requirements for appointment as a principal in Manchester schools. The Union Leader reporting the proposed new job description reduces the requirements for teaching experience and time spent as an administrator. At most levels, the requirements reduce the years of experience in education from 10 to six, and the years spent teaching from five to three.
Manchester city School board members are scheduled to discuss a plan tonight to shorten the school year by extending the school day for city students. The proposal has drawn criticisim of the city’s teachers union, which says it’s not opposed to the extra class time, just the fact the board wants to make the changes without negotiating first.
