The Sarah Long Bridge in Portsmouth will remain closed two to four weeks to repair the damage caused when a 473-foot tanker hit the bridge Monday afternoon. Transportation officials say four vertical trusses need to be fixed and holes opened up in the walkway when a crane on the tanker lifted a section of the bridge while the tide was rising. The bridge was shut down after a tanker broke free from the state pier and became lodged against the bridge. Ships will still be able to travel up and down the river because the center span can be raised.
