Tanker collides with Sarah Long Bridge

The Sarah Long Bridge which links Maine and New Hampshire is closed after a tanker struck the span Monday afternoon.  Authorities say the vessel broke free from a pier and drifted up the Piscataqua River.  The extent of damage to the bridge between Kittery and Portsmouth is not yet clear.  NH DOT spokesman Bill Boynton says inspectors will check the bridge for damage tomorrow morning. The ship, named the Harbour Feature, was carrying tallow oil and yellow grease at the time. No cargo was released into the water after the collision. Crew members were on the ship during the collision. No injuries were reported.
