Outstanding Women

Dawn Kalgren

COMPASSIONATE.  Jason Kalgren describes his wife, Dawn, as someone who never ceases to amaze him.  In 2001, Dawn gave birth to a stillborn daughter.  After having to put her beautiful baby in a doll dress to bury her, she decided other couples should never have to worry about garments in such a tragic event.  She started sewing and knitting for a group called Newborns in Need, who created clothing for premature babies and sewed burial gowns for infant loss.  The group disbanded and Dawn continued the work on her own creating “Ashley’s Angels” as a way to provide beautiful, handmade items for parents experiencing this unimaginable loss.  She uses the fabric from donated wedding gowns to create both boy and girl gowns.  Dawn does this for many Neo-natal ICU’s and birthing centers locally and across the country.  She provides these items free of charge.  Dawn has experienced unbearable pain, yet relives this loss every time she is contacted, becoming a counselor and a friend to other mothers as they deal with such incredible loss.    Dawn has unfathomable strength.
