Kay Chrissis
Kay Chrissis

GENEROUS.  Julie Chrissis describes her mother, Kay, as an unsung hero.  Despite hands that are disfigured from arthritis, she is constantly busy making things for charities, like cookies for an after-school program at her church because she assumed they never got homemade cookies at home.  She makes fleece beds for the animals at the shelter and knits dozens of hats each year for premature babies in the hospital.  She does this even on the days she can’t put on her own earrings or has trouble getting the lid off a container because of the arthritis.  Kay has made at least 100 scarves for the Nashua Soup Kitchen and drops off things so regularly that they send someone out to meet her car.  She buys clothes on sale throughout the year so she can donate them to the Santa Fund at Christmas.  Throughout her career, she worked at psychiatric hospitals and was always bringing in extra clothing and hats that could be given to patients that needed them, and she is just as generous with friends and family, making Halloween costumes and prayer quilts when someone is sick.  Kay serves her neighbors and community with joy and really believes that we should all just help each other out.
