McClanahan Hospitalized With Heart Trouble

Former Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan has cancelled an event in her honor next week after she was hospitalized suffering from a cardiac illness.

The 75-year-old actress, best-known for her role as Blanche Devereaux on the hit series, was scheduled to appear at Golden: A Gala Tribute to Rue McClanahan at San Francisco, California's Castro Theatre.

However, McClanahan has revealed she was recently hospitalized with heart trouble, and doctors have ordered her to remain in their care until her health improves.

The star did not elaborate on her condition, but assured fans she was in good spirits.

She writes in a statement: "My darlings, I'm just devastated that I am going to have to miss my own tribute at the Castro Theatre. Unfortunately, my doctor has laid down the law, and I'm currently having some maintenance on the old ticker. Trust me, I'd much rather be in San Francisco having fun and being adored by all of you."
