CAMBRIDGE, MA- Authorities responded to mayhem outside Boston.

A suspect is facing charges after a shootout with Massachusetts State Police troopers ended with two people seriously injured Monday afternoon.

Boston Police say a man, identified as 46-year-old Tyler Brown, opened fire with an assault-style weapon on Memorial Drive in Cambridge, randomly shooting at people and cars.

A former Marine, as well as an arriving state trooper, were able to subdue Brown. He was treated at the scene and later taken to a Boston hospital.

Authorities say two men were struck by Brown’s gunfire and had life-threatening injuries. No word on their conditions.

Brown reportedly has a lengthy criminal history and was on probation at the time of the shooting, according to the Middlesex District Attorney.
