On June 22, 2021 Manchester Police responded to a robbery on Londonderry Lane, just east of the Citizen’s Bank Parking Garage. The victim said around 8 PM, she had just left a local restaurant and was walking to the garage. She was approached from behind by an unknown man, who grabbed her purse. They struggled and he was able to take her wallet out of the bag and run off. The subsequent K9 track proved unsuccessful.
This was the third such incident to happen in this area within a one-week period. Previously, on June 18, 2021, Manchester Police received a report of a robbery in the Citizen’s Bank Parking Garage. The victim told police around 10 PM, she was getting into her car, when an unknown man assaulted her and demanded her wallet. She gave him her purse and he ran.
The first incident occurred on June 15, 2021, around 10:30 PM, when a woman who was again walking to the Citizen’s Bank Parking Garage was robbed by an unknown man. She reported that the man initially bumped into her and apologized. She then crossed the street at Nutfield Lane and the same man approached her from behind and grabbed her purse before running away.
After an extensive investigation and help from area businesses who provided surveillance video, Manchester Police Detectives were able to determine that the above crimes were committed by the same person. Officers on our walking patrol identified 45 year-old James Williams of Manchester and on June 23rd, members of the MPD Anti-Crime Unit, arrested him.
