LOUDON, N.H.- This past weekend marked the return of NASCAR activity in the Granite State and with it a smaller race to benefit New Hampshire Public Schools.

On Sunday the New Hampshire Lottery organized a friendly race between Governor Kelly Ayotte and NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Mark Martin on a pair of NASCAR simulators with a grand prize of $5,000 for the winner’s school district.

Following the random selection, Martin was informed he’d be racing on behalf of Groveton, while Gov. Ayotte raced for Somersworth.

Despite her best-efforts Governor Ayotte fell short and lost to Martin.

Out of the race Martin spoke with WMUR-TV and his race against the Governor;

It was great. She’s such a great sport…. First time I got to meet her, but you know, I really appreciate what they’re doing for, you know, the New Hampshire Lottery and how they support the public schools and everything. So, it’s just an honor.

And while Martin ended up winning for Groveton, both districts were presented checks following the race.
