CONCORD, N.H.- Folks on both sides of the argument for allowing people to carry weapons on state funded college campus got their chance to share their views.

On Tuesday the Senate Judiciary Committee held a public hearing for House Bill 1793 during which the bill’s author Rep Samuel Farrington R-Rochester admitted he’s open to amendments including one that would see guns in dorm rooms placed inside a lock box, and that colleges would have the authority to criminally punish anyone impaired on campus, carrying a weapon.

Farrington however pushed back and said letting the principle of students possessing guns anywhere so they can defend themselves was non-negotiable.

The hearing also saw the heads of schools in Durham, Keene and Plymouth and their campus police officials speak, during which they warned that the policy could possibly lead to more violence, suicide attempts and a chaotic scene if shots are fired.
