On Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at approximately 1:45 pm, Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police-Troop A barracks responded to a commercial motor vehicle crash on Route 101 in Exeter.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Mack dump truck, being driven by James O’Connor, age 71, of Billerica, MA, was traveling east on Route 101 when mechanical failure caused it leave the roadway, travel down the embankment, and overturn.

Mr. O’Connor was transported to Portsmouth Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.   A Deputy from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department had been conducting a motor vehicle stop in the area and was nearly struck by the truck as it ran off the roadway.  The Deputy had to take evasive action in order to avoid being struck by the truck.  The Deputy was transported to Exeter Hospital with minor injuries.

The right lane and the break down lane of Route 101 just east of Exit 11 were closed for approximately three hours while Troopers conducted their investigation and crews worked to remove the vehicle.

Assisting the New Hampshire State Police Troop A at the scene was the New Hampshire State Police Troop G, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department, the Exeter Fire Department, New Hampshire Department of Transportation, and New England Truck Center.

This crash remains under investigation by Trooper John DeJesus.  Anyone with information pertaining to this collision is asked to contact Trooper DeJesus, NH State Police/Troop A at John.DeJesus@dos.nh.gov
