CONCORD, N.H.- Students, staff and teachers attended a public hearing this week to find out how the district plans to address a $17 million budget deficit.

Monday evening members of the community attended a public hearing at the Mill Brook School and heard the board’s plans which includes cuts to staff, programs including the arts and a nearly 12% tax increase to help make up for the shortfall.

The hearing also saw a number of citizens comment on the Second Start alternative high school, a program used to aid those kids who struggle in a traditional high school setting, which is among those facing noticeable cuts.

School Board officials were quick to say that none of the proposed cuts have yet to be finalized, as budget talks continue.

A public hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, and a final vote is scheduled for next week.
