The U.S. Department of Education is restarting its collection of student loans in default, and federal officials said people who don’t begin repayment could face having their wages garnished. According to the Federal Student Aid program, if you have a student loan in default, you can expect an email within the next few weeks alerting you to the change in collection status and urging you to set up a payment plan. The government has not collected on defaulted loans since March 2020, the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
