BELMONT, N.H. – Friends, colleagues and the community are remembering Earl Sweeny following news of his passing.

Sweeney, 88 who passed away over the weekend, began his career in Law Enforcement in 1957 as a Patrol Officer in Belmont and in 1961 he became the State’s youngest Police Chief at age 24.

Chief Sweeney’s career included serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Safety, the Acting Director of the State Police, Chair of the New Hampshire State Board of Parole and as the Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Safety from which he retired in 2016.

Sweeney is being remembered as a committed community member in Belmont, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
