Former Strafford County Sheriff Pleads Guilty

Former Strafford County Sheriff Mark Brave has pleaded guilty to four felony charges. Brave was arrested in August 2023 after investigators said he misused county funds for personal gain while serving as sheriff. Prosecutors said Brave stole money by submitting false credit card reimbursements for personal expenses and lied during his grand jury testimony. Under the terms of a plea agreement, Brave will have to repay almost $19,000 to Strafford County and he still faces sentencing for the two perjury charges. Brave must also surrender and law enforcement certifications.
