Gary LeVox Names Country Music’s Best Golfers—and Absolutely Roasts Blake Shelton

Country singers apparently spend a lot more time on golf courses than we realized.

And according to Gary LeVox, some of them should probably spend a little more time there.

The Rascal Flatts frontman was recently asked to identify the best and worst golfers in country music, and he didn’t need much time to think about it.

First, the good players.

LeVox says Lady A’s Charles Kelley, Jake Owen, Mitchell Tenpenny and his Rascal Flatts bandmate Joe Don Rooney can all play. He also gave credit to Luke Bryan and Luke Combs.

Then came the dangerous question:

Who’s bad?

LeVox first nominated his cousin and Rascal Flatts bandmate Jay DeMarcus.

And then he got to Blake Shelton.

“Blake’s bad,” LeVox said.

No hesitation.

No diplomatic answer.

Just Blake’s bad.

He briefly considered putting Jason Aldean in the same category before reconsidering and deciding Aldean is actually “pretty decent.”

We’ll assume Blake can handle the criticism.

LeVox certainly has enough experience to judge. He’s an avid golfer himself and recently hosted a charity golf event benefiting Folds of Honor. He also says he’s played with some people who know their way around a golf course—including Michael Jordan, Steph Curry and Charles Barkley.

And golf has become surprisingly common on the country touring circuit.

Artists frequently squeeze in a round during the afternoon before heading to the venue for a show that night. It gives them something to do while touring and, unlike a late afternoon at the local honky-tonk, probably makes performing that evening considerably easier.

LeVox has gotten so into the sport that he’s even a part-owner of Birdi Sunglasses, which makes polarized eyewear designed for golfers.

As for Shelton?

He has plenty of other talents.

Golf apparently isn’t one of them.
