MANCHESTER, N.H.- Former Hampton Police Chief David Hobbs has been selected the Chief of Campus Police at the University of New Hampshire.

Hobbs who started in his new role Monday will now be responsible for a department that features 81 employees across the campuses in Durham, Manchester and Concord and oversee a number of services including law enforcement, emergency and risk management along with compliance with federal reporting requirements.

Before joining the University system Hobbs worked at Northern Essex Community College in Massachusetts, where he served as Public Safety Director and Chief of Campus Police for campuses in Haverhill and Lawrence. Prior to that Hobbs served as both Deputy Chief and Chief of the Hampton Police Department until 2022.

Hobbs succeeds former Chief Steven Lee who resigned from the post back in April after being arrested in Portsmouth for driving under the influence and has since begun working with the Greenland Police Department.

University officials note that an official swearing-in ceremony will be held in early October.
