CONCORD, N.H.– A group of House budget writers has back a plan that would put the money from the sale of the Sununu Youth Services Center into the state treasury instead of the settlement fund that compensates past victims of sexual and physical abuse at the center.

In a recent vote a House Finance Committee’s subcommittee on Health and Human Services Spending voted ,6to 4, to amend the recently passed Senate-Bill 481 which would earmark the estimated $75 to $80 million in proceeds for the settlement fund if the sale takes place after June 30,2027.

Committee members were split over the move as all six Republicans backed putting the proceeds into the treasury, while all four Democrats wanted it added to the settlement fund.

The current state budget has set aside another $20 million for settlements this year but does not include funding for the settlements in the second year of the budget. Following this move the full House Finance Committee is scheduled to make its recommendation on the legislation next Monday.
