CONCORD, N.H.- The New Hampshire House voted Thursday to take punitive action against Rep Travis Corcoran R- Weare following post on social media which targeted fellow state representatives.

In a of 288-54 lawmakers voted in favor of censuring Corcoran over the incendiary social media posts, one calling for a “final solution” against a fellow representative whom he said he did not realize was Jewish, and another calling on the Trump administration to deport a state representative who is a naturalized citizen.

Following the decision Corcoran addressed House members after asking to be censured, saying it would be a fitting end to a process he compared to a theatrical comedy.

Corcoran’s supporters pushed back and said censuring him for a social media post sets a bad precedent.

Supporters of the censure and holding Corcoran accountable argued that they’re not taking away his right to free speech.

House Democratic leader Alexis Simpson said, “ We have the right to condemn Representative Corcoran’s actions toward other members and to that invoking genocide, hatred and discrimination has no place in our public square.
