DERRY, N.H. – A judge has ordered a man charged with firing a gun in his neighborhood over the weekend to undergo a mental health evaluation.

On Monday a judge approved an agreement that would result in 58-year-old Miguel Moralez being moved from preventative detention to a facility for mental health testing following his arrest this week past weekend.

According to court documents the 58-year-old has been charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon for allegedly opening fire early Sunday morning in an attempted suicide.

Police say the officers responding to the call at 23 Wentworth Lane ended up receiving additional information that Moralez may have re-entered the home and that other people inside ended up barricading themselves in another room in the house.

After confirming this to be true officials called for the Southern New Hampshire Special Operations Unit who was able to help and rescue the two people who had been hiding in a bedroom on the second floor.

Following his arrest Moralez told Police he had been drinking heavily and fired a pistol three times outside when he thought he had heard coyotes in the area.
