CONCORD, N.H- One person is dead following a crash on Interstate 89 in Concord.
According to Police Sunday afternoon troopers from the Troop D barracks answered a call for a two-vehicle crash on the southbound side of I-89. By the time they arrived on scene the troopers found the remains of a crash involving an orange 1979 Volkswagen Bus and a white 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van.
At that same time Fire fighters and EMS crews on scene worked to rescue the driver of the Mercedes from the wreckage, who was then later transported to an area hospital for medical attention. Meanwhile authorities say the other driver of the Volkswagen identified as 69-year-old Curtis Avery was transported to an area hospital
and pronounced deceased due to injuries suffered in the crash.
Authorities say a preliminary investigation has revealed that the as the traffic slowed and came to stop Avery who was driving on the southbound side o the highway hit the Mercedes-Benz, causing extensive and heavy front-end damage to his vehicle.
The crash ended up closing the highway for about 3 hours while Troopers investigated; however, authorities are turning to the public and asking that if anyone saw anything and has yet to make a statement to please contact Trooper Kyle Cotnoir at Kyle.H.Cotnoir@dos.nh.gov.
