Man pleads not guilty in road rage incident

A New Hampshire man has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree assault in what police called a road-rage shooting in Grafton.

Joseph Brown was held without bail Tuesday. He’s accused of shooting 46-year-old Jason Marandos on Route 4 on Monday following a confrontation.

The Valley News reports Assistant County Attorney Mariana Pastore said it started when the 38-year-old Brown allegedly tailgated Marandos’ vehicle, drove around him, braked and caused a minor collision. Both got out, Marandos allegedly punched Brown and “the two scuffled” before separating. Brown then allegedly pulled out a gun and fired it into Marandos’ abdomen. Marandos was hospitalized and is expected to survive.

Brown’s attorney disputed Pastore’s characterization of how the collision took place and said “this will be a self-defense case.”
