Man tasered after refusing to drop sword

Shortly before 3 am, Manchester Police responded to an apartment on Dubuque Street for a noise complaint. When officers approached the door they could hear loud music and someone stomping around. When they knocked and identified themselves, the occupant later identified as Christopher Martin swore at them.  Martin eventually opened the door holding a small sword still in a wooden sheath. He was aggressive toward police, continuing to swear at them. Concerned for their safety, officers asked him to drop the sword, when he wouldn’t they tried to take the weapon from Martin, but he stepped back and took a bladed stance with both hands on the sword.  Martin became combative and he and the officer got into a physical struggle.  When the officer couldn’t gain control of him, another officer deployed his taser but it was ineffective. Martin was still standing and fighting, he had to be tased again and finally fell to the ground, but even then he resisted as police tried to handcuff him.

Martin was charged with Criminal Threatening, Simple Assault, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest. Martin will be in Hillsborough Superior Court North on July 11, 2019.
