MANCHESTER, N.H.- Manchester’s Board of Alderman has decided to maintain the current relationship when it comes to work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Tuesday evening the board voted 11 to 2 against expanding its relationship through a program that would see local police deputized by federal authorities.

The suggestion comes after local citizen Rich Girard mentioned that officers on the other side of the state in Troy had entered into the 287(g) program with federal authorities.

Police Chief Peter Marr said the department has no immediate plans to join the federal program due to the fact ICE already has agents and an office in the Queen City and that the department simply doesn’t have enough officers on staff to spare and that the department already works with ICE when detaining an induvial, however Marr noted that the department does not ask a person’s citizenship status when making an arrest.
