Pamela Smart still Hoping for a Sentence Reduction

It’s been 34 years and now, for the first time, inmate Pamela Smart has accepted full responsibility for plotting with her teenage student to have her husband killed in 1990. Smart is serving a life sentence. Yesterday a videotaped statement was released as part of her latest sentence reduction request. The 56-year-old Smart was a 22-year-old high school media coordinator when she began an affair with a 15-year-old boy who later killed her husband, Gregory Smart. She asked to have an “honest conversation” with the Executive Council and Governor Chris Sununu.

“New Hampshire’s process for commutation or pardon requests is fair and thorough,” Sununu’s office said in a statement. “Pamela Smart will be given the same opportunity to petition the Council for a hearing as any other individual.”
