CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — At least 100 people have protested New Hampshire Republican Gov. Chris Sununu’s mask mandate, chanting “Breathe free or die,” and “We will not comply,” outside his Newfields home.
Masks are required in public spaces when social distancing isn’t possible. Seacoastonline.com reports protest organizer Frank Staples, working with a group called Absolute Defiance, said Sunday they gathered outside Sununu’s home instead of the Statehouse because the Statehouse is closed.
He said Sununu’s shut down everything and is running the government from his home. It wasn’t known if Sununu was home at the time. Sununu said a mandate was appropriate, given rising COVID-19 case statistics.
