Fifty years into a career, you would think Reba McEntire had earned the right to put things on cruise control.

Reba apparently disagrees.

The 71-year-old country legend is celebrating five decades in the music business in 2026, but says longevity doesn’t mean people automatically keep paying attention.

Her philosophy is considerably more colorful:

“The barking dog gets the biscuit.”

In other words, you’ve still got to make some noise.

That’s one reason Reba has approached her 50th anniversary differently than simply releasing another greatest-hits collection.

Throughout 2026, she’s been releasing a series of themed EPs that combine songs from different points in her catalog with newer material.

Projects including One Night in Tulsa, Hurt Like That, Ain’t Gonna Keep It Waitin’ and Ring Ring have allowed her to revisit older songs without treating her career like it’s already finished.

More music is coming, too.

One upcoming project, Tourist, features songs written by acclaimed songwriter Brandy Clark.

Reba admits she wasn’t immediately convinced every idea was right for her.

“Ring Ring,” for example, has a playful attitude that initially made her wonder whether it made sense for a woman in her 70s.

Then she decided that was exactly why she should do it.

She even leaned into the fun while making the video.

That willingness to keep trying things may explain quite a bit about Reba’s longevity.

Think about how many different versions of her career we’ve seen.

There’s ’80s and ’90s country-superstar Reba.

Broadway Reba.

Sitcom Reba.

The Voice Reba.

Actress Reba.

And now she’s starring alongside fiancé Rex Linn in NBC’s Happy’s Place while still recording and performing country music.

A lot has changed since Reba released her first single in 1976.

Country music certainly has.

The way people discover music has changed almost beyond recognition.

But Reba’s basic strategy apparently hasn’t:

Don’t sit still long enough for everybody to forget you’re there.

After 50 years, the dog is still barking.

And there seem to be plenty of biscuits left.
