A Manchester woman has been arrested and charged with stealing more than 2 dozen Hannaford gift cards from the Manchester School District where she works.
The Manchester School District runs a wellness/fitness challenge for employees. The winner of each challenge receives a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. During an inventory of the cards, an employee noticed 26 gift cards were missing, with a total value of $650. It was confirmed that they had never been rewarded as prizes.
Through their investigation, police learned that the majority of the missing cards had been used and the same Hannaford’s loyalty rewards account was associated with all of the purchases.
This led them to 49 year old Susan Hawes, an Accountant Technician at the Manchester School District. Hawes was charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking.
Hawes turned herself in Friday was released on PR bail and will be arraigned in Manchester Circuit Court on December 23, 2019.
