Sentencing of former Nashua State Rep charged with possessing child sex abuse images delayed

MANCHESTER, N.H.- The sentencing of former Nashua State Rep Stacie Maire Laughton, the state’s first transgender elected official has been pushed back to mid-June.

According to court documents, sentencing which was scheduled to take place on June 4, in a Massachusetts federal court was paused after Laughton’s attorney raised concern over the fact they had not been given adequate access to their client, who’s currently being held at a federal facility in Brooklyn, New York, nor have they been given access to a number of requested documents related to this case.

As a result’s Laughton’s sentencing has now been scheduled for June 18th.

Laughton, 41, who was born Barry Laughton is facing up to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty this past November to exchanging more than 1,000 texts with his former romantic partner Linday Groves of Hudson that she took while working at a daycare in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts.

Groves was recently sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to of sexual exploitation of children and distribution of child pornography.
