MANCHESTER, N.H.- As the midterm election quickly approaches Senate candidates John E. Sununu and Chris Pappas were back in front of voters Wednesday morning for a debate and conversation with voters.
Appearing at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College for a forum hosted by AARP the pair shared talking points with voters, which saw the conversation shift to Social Security and protecting it for retirees; during which Sununu referenced and defend his 2005 legislation that gave people the option of investing part of their Social Security contributions in private accounts but admitted that plan doesn’t work by today’s standards.
Chris Pappas spoke in favor or protecting Social Security as it’s on track to run out of reserves in 2032 and also spoke on why he’s been advocating for taxing the wealthy.
Wednesday’s forum comes after pair met Tuesday for a debate hosted by the Mount Washington Valley Economic Council, during which the pair spent a large time arguing over a number of things including whether or not Sununu worked for “Big Pharma” which Sununu told Pappas to name the company he worked for, to which Pappas failed to do so.
