U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen Announces She Will Not Seek Reelection in 2026

New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen said on Wednesday she will not run for re-election in 2026.

In a video announcement just released, Senator Shaheen said it was a difficult decision.

“There are urgent challenges ahead, both here at home and around the world. And while I am not seeking re-election, believe me, I am not retiring.”

Shaheen, 78, became a U.S. senator in 2009 after serving as a New Hampshire state senator and the state’s first female governor from 1997-2003.
