MANCHESTER, N.H.- The National Science Foundation has awarded an $8 million dollar grant to the University of New Hampshire in order to study ticks, the diseases they spread and the environments they thrive in.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, New Hampshire has one of the highest rates of Lyme disease in the country.
The funding will focus on three tick species found in New Hampshire: the blacklegged or deer tick, the American dog tick and the winter tick, which has major impacts on moose and wildlife health.
