Amherst’s fire chief is warning homeowners of houses built in the 1960’s and 70’s, that after the department has responded to 4 fires in less than a year where the blaze originated in the same area with the same cause — and all built in the same time period. The Nashua Telegraph reporting the lack of fire codes or enforcement of codes during the building boom of the 1960s and 1970s allowed many homes to be built without the proper separation between combustible materials and heat sources.
