Holiday Rush

Here we are heading into the holiday rush!  Thanksgiving is here and Christmas is just around the corner, and we are about to go into the frenzy that drives us all a little over the edge. I do love the holiday’s, a chance to spend time with people you may not see as often as you would like, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, we all get together, eat a great meal and catch up on what we have been up to over the past few months. However, I’m not sure what I think about the rush to head out to the stores as soon as the last bite of pumpkin pie is gone.  Do we really need to spend all of our hard earned cash on Thanksgiving Day?  What’s wrong with stores opening up early on Friday morning?  I know the reason they open so early is to rake in as much cash as they possibly can to keep the shareholders happy, but what about what we are losing?  Losing precious time with family sitting around the dinner table maybe having that leftover turkey sandwich or extra piece of pie. I know some will say, even if we don’t go shopping on Thanksgiving day the kids will have their faces in the screen of their phones and tablets, which is probably true, but at least they are still at home with family.  I know that many will head out to the stores as a family to shop too, that is fine, but can’t it wait until Friday? Ever since I was a kid I remember Thanksgiving being the day we went to the high school football game, came home to the smell of turkey and sitting down to a family meal and spending the day together. Not rushing through the meal to get a deal on a 100″ television.  I know I am probably being “old fashioned” and that times have changed, but I still think we need to keep our holidays as days we spend with family and friends and keep them special not make them another chance to save a buck or two.
