What People Are Talking About 1/14/15

By now this may be old news to you but, Facebook will be issuing Amber Alerts from now on. If there is an alert in your area look for it to show up on your timeline, FB is becoming the worlds largest Neighborhood Watch!

They just released the hot new food trends for this year and I’m not so sure what’s new about them.  First up is fancy toast, basically toast that uses artisan breads and special spreads on them, something that has been around for a while, look for more restaurants to incorporate them into their menus. Also hot for 2015 seaweed, seaweed chips and crisps are going to start rising in popularity. Seaweed has been used in sushi but, now look for it to be on it’s own. I’m sure it’s super healthy, just don’t tell the kids what they are eating. The trend of making healthy food to mimic unhealthy snack continues with dried Brussels Sprouts, yes even they are getting a make over and will be offered in the form of a chip or crisp.

Here’s one that may have you scratching your head. A principal in an Alabama middle school wants kids to start a stockpile of canned food at the back of classrooms. Now, you may think the food is there in case there is an emergency and they can’t get to the cafeteria for lunch, nope that’s not why. The principal wants the cans so the middle school kids can arm themselves in case there is an intruder, they can toss the cans at that person and ward them off. What? This is just wrong on so many levels, first off do you want a middle school kid defending himself with a can of corn? How about they keep intruders out of the school? Oh, by the way they say if the cans aren’t used by the end of the school year they will donate them to a local food pantry.
