A group called Women on $20s is pushing a campaign to replace former President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with a woman. According to The Week, organizers have a list of 15 women they say would be great candidates for the $20 bill, with favorites including Susan B. Anthony, Eleanor Roosevelt,
Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks. They chose the $20 bill because the 100-year anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote will be in 2020, and because they aren’t too fond of Jackson, mostly because of his Indian Removal Act. The group’s executive director, Susan Ades Stone, also told the Washington Post that Jackson didn’t even like paper currency, preferring gold and silver. She said, “The guy would be rolling in his grave to know that every day the ATM spits out bills with his face on it.” Women on $20s is trying to get 100,000 signatures on its petition before sending it to the White House.
