Every year we hear about people who don’t use all of their vacation days, are you one of them? After taking a week off to enjoy a little downtime, it made me think. Why don’t we use all of our vacation time? I think the biggest factor is the fear that our boss’ will get by fine without us, or replace us. I also think the attitude of the typical worker is that they are just lucky to have a job and don’t want to risk losing the job, in some cases that may be true, but for most it is not.
After just a few days away it gives you the chance to clear your head and come back to work fresh! You can approach your job with a clear mind and maybe bring some new ideas with you, that is always a plus in your boss’ eyes!
Another reason many don’t take a vacation is the cost of going away, yes, it can be expensive if you have a large family and want to travel. I suggest you look at your budget and still take that time off and do day trips. No matter where you live there is always something close by to do with the family and if you do some research you might just find something to do for free!
Bottom line is you have those paid days off, use them. Trust me you will be much better off, you will be a better worker and be more productive, plus you’ll have something to look forward to when that next vacation rolls around.
