Mrs. Riddell is an amazing example of how much students thrive in an environment focused on hands-on learning and student involvement. Throughout the year she finds ways to integrate STEAM into her lessons. From creating simple machines with everyday objects to papier-mâché animals, everything is geared toward using their hands, bodies and minds. Her students are engaged, happy and active learners. At the beginning of school year, she allows them to make their own classroom constitution. This creates an environment where they own the rules and feel more compelled to follow them. Her classroom is always well behaved and conscientious of each other’s needs. At any time, you can pop into her room and hear students discussing lessons and sharing ideas. Her cheerful yet strong style of leadership encourages students to use their voices and share their thoughts. Mrs. Riddell has made a huge impact on many students and helped create students that are sure to be lifelong learners. She deserves so much more than this nomination.
